Discussbot - Getting Started |
Ok, there's been a lot of people with issues getting the bot to work with SEF. There's too many for me to investigate each one so here's how I installed it on a fresh and clean Joomla 1.5 installation. I will try to outline every little detail and make a note of everything that I can think of.
Starting at the very beginning you need a decent and current hosting environment. Here's the pertinent info from my Joomla System Info page:
Database Version: 5.0.51a-community
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.2.5
Web Server: Apache
Web Server to PHP interface: cgi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.7 Production/Stable [ Wovusani ] 9-September-2008 23:00 GMT

 Sometime last year someone who had made the jump from PC to Mac was dumping all his old PC hardware. I took two dead CPU's and was able to cobble together one machine that was quite respectable and solid. I threw in a new 500GB ard disk and a Hauppauge WinTV-500 card and went down the road of installing MythTV. A few of my friends had gone before me and it seemed like a great way to watch television. I'd heard over and over how much better MythTV was than other PVR's but I had to see for myself.

 Right off the bat with the eeePC's Xandros OS I was having issues. Sure, they were minor, but for a techno-geek like myself it was an opportunity. On the first night I had the unit it wouldn't connect to my Linksys WAP54G wireless acess point using WPA so I had to downgrade to WEP and in the next few days I discovered that the audio volume was too quiet for listening on an airplane. Not to mention the limited UI and the promise of some new Linux tinkering, something had to be done. The only other EeePC I'd seen was running Windows and while XP does everything I need it to, that didn't sit right with me.
